CANOEING
Enjoy a sunset paddle on a calm-as-glass lake or get up early in the morning to watch the mist slowly moving off a bind in the river. You can travel the same routes of the Ojibwe Indians and the early explorers on nine such routes offered in the Chippewa National Forest.
The Infant Mississippi River waterway meanders through the area, narrow enough for a safe trip and wide enough to provide an abundance of wildlife, including bald eagles that hunt fish along the river. Beavers have lodges along the river and paddlers will often hear the slap of a beaver tail against the water.
